Kinder Room: Preschoolers 3 — 5 Years

The preschool years are a time of huge growth—in confidence, creativity, friendships and learning. In our Kinder Room, we blend government-funded kindergarten with play-based learning, supporting your child’s development holistically while preparing them for school with joy, curiosity and confidence.

The Kinder Room Philosophy

Preschoolers are thinkers, creators and problem-solvers ready to engage with the world. We:

  • Nurture lifelong learning. We foster curiosity and love of discovery, not just skill-building.
  • Support school readiness in ways that feel natural—through play, friendships and daily challenges.
  • Celebrate individual strengths. Every child is different; we appreciate what each brings.
  • Build resilience and confidence. Children learn they can try, fail, persist and succeed.
  • Extend play-based learning into literacy, numeracy and world knowledge.

Government-funded kindergarten doesn’t mean worksheets and pressure. It means structured, intentional learning woven into play and exploration.

Government-Funded Kindergarten Program

Our Kinder Room delivers the government-funded kindergarten program, which means:

  • Structured curriculum aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework
  • Focus on literacy and numeracy emerging through play and purposeful activities
  • School readiness support in a low-pressure environment
  • Regular literacy and numeracy learning alongside play, art, music and movement
  • Educator planning based on children’s interests and developmental needs

Your child gets the benefits of quality early education plus the kindergarten program—the best of both approaches.

A Typical Day in the Kinder Room

7:15–8:30am

Arrival & Settling — Children arrive and choose a quiet activity—books, puzzles, drawing—while everyone gets settled.

9:00–9:30am

Morning Tea — We offer fresh fruit, toast, milk, smoothies, hash browns and many more!

9:30–10:00am

Morning Meeting & Group Time — We gather as a group: songs, stories, introduce what we’ll be learning for the day. We focus heavily on children’s voices and give them agency in leading the program.

10:00–11:30am

Structured Play & Learning — This is where the magic happens. Educators set up play-based learning experiences: a literacy corner with books, writing materials and storytelling; a numeracy area with blocks, puzzles and measuring activities; an art/creative station; outdoor exploration; and small group activities with educators.

11:30am–12:30pm

Transition, Lunch & Outdoor Play — Songs, stories or a calm group activity to help transition from play to lunch. Home-cooked lunch, followed by outdoor exploration—climbing, chasing, water play, bikes, balls, climbing structures.

12:30–1:00pm

Rest Time — We dim the lights, create a calm and peaceful environment, and invite the children to settle comfortably on their mats. This quiet time allows children to rest their bodies and minds, helping them to reset and recharge before continuing with the rest of their day.

1:00–2:00pm

Transition & Quiet Play — Following our midday rest and reset, children are invited to choose how they would like to continue their day. They may return to their learning experiences, engage in quiet indoor activities, or head outdoors for some fresh air and play.

2:00–3:00pm

Afternoon Tea — Healthy snacks like fresh fruits, yogurt, muffins, sandwiches, ice cream and so much more! All food is cooked on site using healthy ingredients.

3:00–5:00pm

Afternoon Learning & Play — Second round of play-based learning—educators might run a group art project, a music activity, or an excursion experience. Children follow interests, play in small groups, and continue skill development.

5:00–6:15pm

Winding Down, Pick Up & Late Snacks — Throughout the afternoon, children continue to engage in a range of indoor and outdoor learning experiences based on their interests, choices and individual needs. Late afternoon snack is offered to children. As families arrive for pick-up, educators share important information about the child’s day, including their experiences, learning, wellbeing, meals, rest and any significant moments.

What Makes the Kinder Room Special

🎓 School Readiness Through Play

We don’t drill letters and numbers. Instead, children develop literacy skills through stories and play-based writing, numeracy through counting games and measuring, social skills for group settings, and self-regulation through routines and guided practice.

👩‍🏫 Qualified Kinder Educator

Our Kinder Room has educators trained in early childhood education and experienced in kindergarten delivery. They know how to balance play with intentional learning.

🌟 Rich Learning Experiences

Regular incursions—visiting musicians, sports coaches, cultural educators and community visitors. Plus excursions, cooking, gardening, art, music and movement every week.

📝 Individual Learning Plans

Every child develops differently. We observe what your child loves and what they’re learning, and we tailor our approach to support their unique journey toward school readiness.

🏫 Connection with School

As children approach school entry, we liaise with their prospective school and support a smooth transition. We celebrate the excitement of starting school and help children feel confident and ready.

🎒 Funded Kinder Program

We deliver the Victorian funded kinder program between 9am-3pm, 5 days a week! Our qualified kindergarten educators follow the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF), creating meaningful learning experiences that build children’s confidence, independence, communication, social skills, and emotional wellbeing.

What Your Child Will Experience

  • Friendship and belonging. Real peer relationships and a strong community feeling.
  • Confidence and independence. Knowing they can try, ask for help, and succeed.
  • Love of learning. Curiosity and engagement without pressure or anxiety.
  • Emerging literacy and numeracy. Skills developing naturally through play and exploration.
  • Preparation for school. Ready socially, emotionally and developmentally—without losing the joy of childhood.

🎓 School Readiness at MACC

At MACC, school readiness is about so much more than knowing letters and numbers. Our Kinder Room program is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and is designed to build the confidence, independence and social skills your child needs to thrive when they start school.

✍️ Literacy & Numeracy

Through play-based experiences, children develop early reading, writing and maths skills—storytelling, letter recognition, counting, patterns and problem-solving—all at their own pace.

🧠 Social & Emotional Skills

Children learn to manage emotions, take turns, resolve conflicts and build friendships—the essential skills that help them feel confident and settled in a classroom environment.

🌱 Independence & Self-Help

From packing their own bag to following multi-step instructions, children build the self-help skills and routines that prepare them for the independence expected at school.

🏫 Transition to School

We liaise with local primary schools and work closely with families to support a smooth transition. Our educators share detailed information about each child’s development to help teachers understand their needs from day one.

❤️ The Joy of Childhood

We believe children should be ready for school without losing the magic of childhood. Our approach balances structured learning with plenty of time for creative play, imagination and just being a kid.
